My New Website.

I've recently re-designed my website, ianscheller.com

Well, the front page anyway. The index.html for you authors out there.

This is probably my favorite homepage of all time and it took years to create.

Its very easy to get burnt out on this web thing both professionally and personally. When I first encountered this technology, it was in the creative writing building at Syracuse University. It was a puzzle that took me months to understand, coming at it from a strictly fine-arts viewpoint.

Hypertext was my introduction to the web - telling stories in a non-linear fashion through hyperlinks.

There was no e-commerce, no marketing, no SEO. The web was pretty pure. (well, ok the adult industry did get going rather quickly and did start all the above.)

But for that brief time, the web was an endless abyss, a small cozy place to be - a misunderstood young medium.

I call it a medium of multi-mediums.

The web combines the best and worst of each medium that has come before it. And because of this giant amalgamation, there are many that clearly have forgotten that journalists, printers, radio hosts, actors, artists - crafts people ruled our working economy before everyone gave their private lives to the public world.

And you didn't need web skills to bring yourself to the attention of the ignorant.

I've recently let my freelance clients go. I'm now teaching the craft of the medium of multi-mediums -- and while I have just begun, it is so very important that if you decide to choose this place to create - and you should - you must not forget that there are many talented, intelligent and genius crafts people that have come before us.

Their work cannot be taken for granted as we charge forward to reveal the hidden mysteries of our imaginations.
